Working with digital media requires not only creativity but also a lot of technical knowledge. Only when we fully understand the medium we have to work with can the creativity flourish.
In this session we will think about how to escape from the traditional design tools given us by the big corporations and start creating our own. If you think of code as the ultimate tool then what is born as a simple script, if given enough care, can evolve to a reusable library or a whole new interface. Being able to extract design concepts from everyday work, abstract them and then apply in a different context is a skill that everyone needs to practice more.
Marcin will explore data visualization in Flash through interactive systems in Processing, Unity and OpenFrameworks, to generative art in Cinder, Plask and WebGL. He will show the process behind these projects, the inspirations, the failures and the (un)expected outcomes.
