Presentation

Overview

An introduction to the Processing programming language and environment for people with previous experience with Flash’s Actionscript. It is assumed participants are familiar with variables, conditionals, loops, arrays, and objects and we will demonstrate how these principles can be transferred to working with Processing. Processing provides a different way of thinking about drawing and interaction and the similarities and differences between Flash and Processing will be discussed, but the focus will be on exploring the potential for creating work within Processing. We will focus on programming form, motion, and interaction and show how Processing can be extended to export files to Illustrator, synthesize sound, and import data from sensors such as a camera. The workshop will consist of a series of short presentations sequenced with time for participants to work with the software. Participants need to have a laptop and also should have the software installed before the start of the workshop: http://processing.org/download
