Presentation

Overview

The combination of sound and Actionscript opens the door for innovative interfaces that allow users to experience dynamic sound reactions that immediately respond to their input in an unexpected way. While users are accustomed to hearing sound loops and repeated effects based on mouse clicks and rollovers, some more sophisticated techniques can be used to create dynamic soundscapes. Using algorithms and coding structures, Diana will show how to take user input and weave it into evolving rhythms and melodies through actionScript. By using Flash’s timer combined with the strategic construction of arrays, she will show how on-screen graphics, predetermined sounds and mouse reactions can be combined to turn on-screen gestures into musical compositions.
