FITC Toronto 2024 always promises to be a captivating showcase with some of the most talented and inspiring digital creators from around the globe. Each year, the event’s titles evoke a unique theme or idea. This year, the event’s titles capture the ongoing struggle between the process of creation and time’s relentless march forward. Creativity begins in darkness, yet needs time to thrive and find definition in the light, whereas time shapes the creative process, putting pressure on the artist that both limits and incentivizes them. Through eye-catching visual representations, the artist reflects on the relationship between creativity and the flow of time. It is the artist’s role to find the right balance of these elements to uncover the hidden gem within the final results.
During this presentation, talented digital VFX artist Alejandro Robledo Meijia (of RMA Design) will share his story behind the creation of this year’s stunning visual sequence: from initial concepts and references to sketching, and pre-visual production right up to the creation of a first draft. Through exploring all the ups and downs of his creative process, Meija will show how the final piece came together, merging the worlds of beautiful digital simulations, 3D design, and typography into the final, polished product.
