Presentation

Overview

Performance improvements in AS3 have been benchmarked at 10 times the speed of Flash 8! The new event model and display list make AS3 even more tempting!

With all this added speed and efficiency, what’s the point if you don’t put it to use? 3D is an exciting way to try out ideas that were not possible in earlier versions of Flash, so why not use 3D to make that menu, picture viewer, game, or even just a cool experimental effect? Roll up your sleeves and join this ‘how-to’ session that will give you a chance to put AS3 to the test on your own.

Who this presentation is for: This session is for the intermediate AS2/AS3 coder crowd who are psyched to learn how to update/create 3D using AS3. Designers are welcome to watch the examples in between topics, but the majority of time will be spent on code and instruction.

What attendees will walk away with:

Step by step instruction on how to use AS3 to code a basic 3D engine, creating textures with bitmap Data, manipulating a 3D camera, running performance tests, and just getting inspired for 3D projects.
