Presentation

Overview

Softness is the future of robotics.

Discover rapid advances in soft robotics, including leading work in the field. Learn about recent developments from Michael’s group, the Bioinspired Robotics and Design Lab at UC San Diego, where they borrow inspiration from nature to design automated systems with lifelike capabilities. Creatures like the starfish inspire our designs for soft robots composed of compliant materials. And natural fabrication techniques, from the small scale (proteins) to the large scale (plant leaves), inspire their folding, self-assembling robots.

Objective

Inspire the audience with recent advances in the design of bioinspired robotic systems

Five Things Audience Members Will Learn

  1. Why robots should be soft
  2. What are the potential advantages
  3. What has been accomplished so far
  4. What are the outstanding challenges
  5. Where is the field going in the future
