Overview
The screen is flat. The world is not. This discrepancy is typically addressed in interface design through the simulation of three dimensions within the two-dimensional screen relying on visual gimmicks such as
perspective projection or layering. We ask the question – “Can this discrepancy be productive – are there more interesting ways of moving from three-dimensions to a two-dimensional interface?”
The presentation will introduce new methods of moving from 3D models and data to the screen and frame the design challenges in working with these translations. Case studies from recent projects for clients such as Mazda, Nike and Philips will be used as the lens into the design ideas and techniques of custom developed scripts within Maya and Flash.
