Overview

Open source has become the key driver of change in the mobile handset market, as open platforms are changing the rules of the game and enabling new compelling experiences. The adoption of “open” is moving full steam ahead in the mobile industry as platforms like Android continue to take the spotlight. With the growing popularity of smartphones and the mobile Web, software has emerged as the key enabler for customized consumer experiences; and, as the mobile ecosystem continues to accelerate, all forms of “open” are gaining acceptance with great benefit to the developer and the end-user.

With the emergence of the Android operating system as one of the most innovative and flexible open platforms available, applications can be brought to market quickly, ultimately resulting in more personalized and rich device interaction for the end user. In this session, Christy Wyatt will highlight how the mobile industry, and Motorola specifically, has embraced the concept of open source with Android and what mobile and web developers alike should be doing to get in the game.
