Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, JR grew up in New York City and has lived just south of the (Canadian) border since 2001. Inspired by the classic coin-op games of the 8-bit era, JR has been making digital art and coding original games since the early 80’s. A graduate of F.I.T., his work has been featured in Communication Arts, PRINT magazine, the Flash Forward Film Festival, and various art galleries.
Jose is a former Macromedia/Adobe Community manager and published author (Friends of Ed/Pearson) on the topics of games and data-driven design. He has focused extensively on JavaScript and HTML for the last five years – bringing the experience of 100+ Flash games to current web design and development.
Notable game clients include: American Express, Comedy Central, Corus Entertainment, Fisher-Price, the Montreal Canadiens, Roadrunner Records, InStyle Magazine, Microsoft, and Samsung.
Presently JR serves as the director of digital strategy for FARM, an idea cultivation agency based out of Lancaster New York, as well as being the sole proprietor of JRVisuals LLC, a creative technology studio focused on creating playful experiences for art, advertising, education, and social transformation. He also teaches game design and volunteers as a meditation instructor.
