Derrick Ypenburg is an industry expert in video streaming and rich media applications. As co-owner of Focus on Media and Lead Interactive Developer/Designer, Derrick brings over 10 years of multimedia, Flash, audio/video, design and teaching/speaking experience to the table. Prior to Focus on Media, Derrick worked with the industry leader New Toronto Group as a Senior Consultant and Trainer. There, as an Adobe Certified instructor, Derrick traveled North America to train a variety of clients. During his time with New Toronto Group, Derrick also worked on multimedia and streaming projects for companies such as MTV, Spike TV, New England Journal of Medicine and TrueFire. Under NTG, Derrick co-authored the official Adobe Authorized Flash Video Applications course.

Derrick started his career with EMI/Virgin Music, Canada’s top music label, as a Multimedia developer. There, he authored promotional websites for such top acts as The Beatles, Beastie Boys and Lenny Kravitz. Derrick also delivered on-demand audio and video feeds, live web-casting and promotional downloads. In 1998, he pioneered live, on-demand streaming and promotional downloads, a first for the Canadian music industry.

Derrick has trained at Humber College School of Media Studies and Centennial College Bell Centre for the Digital Arts, as well as attending George Brown College for Graphic Design and Advertising. He is an Adobe Certified Instructor and CompTIA/CTT+ Certified – the credential recognizing excellence in technical instruction.

Derrick has been a speaker at FITC Toronto 2006 and 2007 (The Art of Encoding Video), Flash in TO (The new features in Flash 8 video) and Streaming Media West (on the Future of Streaming and Higher Education).
