Overview

Seating is limited – Free to Attend – RSVP

The Gear VR is a powerful tool for communicating virtual reality experiences. In this workshop you will learn how to develop a Gear VR app using the Oculus SDK and Unity. (We will not cover NDK or Unreal development.) Using Unity, you will create the basic components required of a Gear VR app. You will also learn about Oculus recommendations and requirements, how to optimize your project to run on mobile and some best practices including how to design for user comfort. By the end of the workshop, you will have created a simple 360 degree image viewer that runs in the Gear VR.

Who should attend
App or game developers with no previous Gear VR experience.

What you should bring
Bring your own laptop and your own Samsung Note 4 and/or Gear VR headset if you have one. We will provide a Note 4 and a Gear VR headset to borrow (to be returned at the end of the workshop). Borrowed devices will be shared in pairs. Your laptop should have an Android development environment setup (Android SDK, NDK, Java JDK, and the appropriate Android platform image). You should also have Unity Free version 4.6 installed and the latest Oculus SDK downloaded (integration of the Oculus SDK into Unity will be covered in the workshop). A detailed setup guide will be sent to all attendees.
