Presentation

Overview

Microsoft’s Kinect allows players to interact without using any controllers. Hackers were quickly able to connect it to a computer and extract the data coming from the Kinect Sensor. What followed was a flood of impressive experiments that utilized the Kinect in a completely different way. In this Session he will talk about how the Kinect works, what frameworks are available and how the Kinect Sensor’s data can be used. Basic ActionScript examples will be given but he will also venture beyond Flash to show other powerful libraries and their capabilities. Examples will include face recognition, gesture recognition, controlling an avatar using skeletal data, Kinect+3D+physics.

Audience:
Flash developers, interactive artists, creative technologists, designers

Attain: you will learn how the Kinect works, what can be done with the data and how it can be used with ActionScript & other technologies. This presentation shows some code but isn’t oriented towards developers only. The emphasis is more on the possible uses of the Kinect from a creative technologist’s point of view.
