Overview
An interface is the most familiar evidence of the design process, but an interface is more portal than product. It is where two or more systems, people, businesses, organizations, etc. meet and interact. The interface is not the thing we want or need, it is the way to get what we want or need.
The work to create an effective site or application is unseen by the people who use it. Countless explorations, experimenting and prototyping, and innumerable decisions small and large precede the pixels. How did we get from problem, goal, and idea to this interface?
Before the site or application there was strategy, risk, and execution; after there is customer service, fulfillment, product quality, brand, and reputation. How did the organization know what to do, how does design help guide, and does the site or application align with the entire experience before, during, and after the interface?
We define technically complex sites and applications with complex technology and tools that are ever changing; the way we create interfaces today has changed and will change again. What might be our new skills, and what might we entrust to automation and AI? Where is our unique value, what do we need to learn, and how can continue to contribute to the craft of the interface?
Join us for a discussion about this unseen work and how vibe designing might change everything that happens behind the interface.
