John has had a large part in creating the mobile content industry in Ottawa as it is today.

With a BASC in Electrical Engineering and an MSC in Space Physics, he is not your typical entrepreneur.

Recognizing the need for mobile phone connectivity to the Internet, John founded Beduin Communications in 1997 and built one of the first Java-based cell phone browsers. After Beduin was purchased by Sun Microsystems in 1998 he angel invested in a number of local mobile startups and founded some too. Rove was started in 2001 to deliver enterprise systems administration to handhelds. In 2002 he founded Magmic to concentrate on the emerging market of mobile game development and publishing. In 2010 he founded Pretzil a social check-in network for mobile apps.
