Overview

A year ago, if you said the word drone (or UAV) to me, I would have either thought of a sci-fi movie that I probably didn’t like or some sort of military spy plane. While those associations are still true for me, a third association has formed… fun.

Drones or UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have become a part of the DIY community as physical computing components get more affordable and crowd funding flourishes. Companies are popping up all over the place with fun new products thanks to these factors.

During this talk, I will discuss both pre-fabricated and home-made solutions for working with drones as well as some fun non-military uses for them. I will also give a sneak peek of the drone-based project currently in development by the Creative Technologists of Toronto.
