Presentation

Overview

Unity is a new technology that is taking the web by storm. Along with Flash engines such as Papervision and Away3D it announces a shift in general web designing, where 3D is used not only for games but for any kind of applications: social, advertisement, education, you name it…

We, as the Flash community, are on the frontline of those who are supposed to bring 3D content to the wide web. But around 3D graphics there already exists a huge industry with years of accumulated experience and hundreds of tools. Scary? We will try to see how to get into the 3D flow without feeling lost.

During the presentation, we will make a walkthrough the Unity authoring tool and compare it with Flash IDE. Next we will get an introduction on how to work with 3D assets. Finally we’ll focus on scripting and briefly compare C# with Actionscript 3.

Last but not least, we will explore the topic on how learning Unity can inspire you to make better Flash applications… and how to use your Flash experience to make better use of Unity in your projects.

Who this presentation is for: Designers & developers thinking about expanding their skills into the field of Unity and 3D in general.

What attendees will take from this presentation: A solid dose of 3D love! And for the practical ones, an overview of 3D workflow as well as an introduction to the Unity IDE and scripting.
