Presentation

Overview

Fifteen years ago, Territory Studio began by designing fictional interfaces for science-fiction films, crafting the visual language of technologies that did not yet exist. From Marvel HUDs to cinematic control rooms and speculative futures, we were asked to make complex systems feel believable and emotionally intuitive for a global audience.

What started as storytelling for the screen evolved into something bigger. As real-world technologies began catching up (AR, autonomous vehicles, robotics, space habitats) the same principles we used in cinema became essential in reality. Today, our work spans film, digital products, robotics, and aerospace, unified by three core pillars: Design, Technology, and Storytelling. This talk explores how imagining the future in Hollywood prepared us to help build it in the real world, and how a creative studio can pivot industries without losing its identity.

Objective

To show how speculative design can become a bridge between fiction and real-world innovation.

Target Audience

Designers, technologists, creative directors, and founders shaping the next generation of products and experiences.

Things Audience Members Will Learn

  • Why sci-fi is a laboratory for innovation: How designing fictional technology creates a safe space to prototype future human experiences.
  • How design translates complexity into clarity: The universal visual language that makes autonomous vehicles, AI systems, and space infrastructure understandable to everyday users.
  • How a creative studio can pivot across industries without losing its soul: The strategic decisions behind diversifying into automotive, aerospace, and digital product, while staying anchored to the same core mission.
  • The role of storytelling in product design: Why advanced technology needs narrative framing to create trust, adoption, and emotional connection.
  • How to future-proof a creative business: Building interdisciplinary teams around Design, Technology, and Storytelling to adapt to emerging industries and stay resilient when industries shift
