Overview
For the new “Create” section of the Disney.com website, we strive to build applications that are infused with a sense of Disney magic — applications that encourage kids to be creative and to express themselves in positive ways online. Building applications of this sort requires us to frequently push the boundaries of the Flash Player, but even more frequently to stretch our own capabilities as software designers. To get to where we are, we have ended up creating a lot of interesting software (with a surprising amount of mathematics and computer science under the hood), and leveraging a diverse team of technologists, designers, and artists. In this talk we will describe how we have designed and created these applications, with plenty of examples, and with a particular emphasis on the way we view writing code as a fundamental part of the design process.
