Andy Matthews will be speaking at RIA Unleashed Boston 2011 on how to write applications that can be deployed to the web, desktop computers and mobile devices from a single code base. Andy took the time to answer a few of our questions so FITC fans and followers could get to know him a little better leading up to the event. Meet Andy Matthews...
What are you passionate about?
I'm passionate about my kids; about reading and literacy; about cooking; about learning new things!
What personal projects are you working on?
- I recently released v2 of foursquareCFC, a ColdFusion wrapper for the Foursquare API. It's been rewritten from scratch to jive with Foursquare's pending conversion to oAuth 2.
- I'm also going to be releasing a ColdFusion wrapper for the Instagram API.
- I have an update to my Blackberry PlayBook app that will be released by the end of the year.
- I'm in the initial stages of a book/CD/DVD management app that will be my first cross-platform app, pushing to iPhone, Android, and Playbook.
What tools are you working with now?
Eclipse, ColdFusion Builder and Flash Builder. I fought against Eclipse for so long many years ago and now it seems that every tool I use for code is built upon it. I also make heavy use of Illustrator and Photoshop in my day to day work.
Where do you get your news?
While I read blogs as much as I used to, I don't generally seek them out. I find that I get a broader range of topics and viewpoints by following a diverse group of people on Twitter. I generally read most of my feed, earmark articles and posts that sound interesting using Instapaper.
What do you do to disconnect and unwind?
Playing trains with my 3-year-old son is a good way to relax. I love to cook. There's something very relaxing about throwing together some raw ingredients and coming up with a tasty treat. I also love to read. I've currently got about 30 or 40 books on my "to read" list, and it's growing all the time. I try to keep a good balance of non-fiction to fiction, and I also throw in the monthly Wired magazine - it gets read cover to cover every time.
