Theo is an artist, designer and experimenter whose work is born out of the curiosity and excitement of designing experiences that come alive and invite people to play. Theo’s work ranges from experimental tools for artistic expression like Eyewriter and GRL’s Laser Tag to immersive, large scale interactive environments with full-body interaction like the award winning Connected Worlds installation at the New York Hall of Science.
In 2010 Theo co-founded the creative studio Design I/O with Emily Gobeille, with the goal to create ambitious and playful interactive experiences. Since then Design I/O has been at the leading edge of immersive interactive installations and new forms of storytelling. Their recent work includes an emotion driven interactive robot arm as well as the world’s first live streamed, VR music video album. In 2020 Design I/O was awarded Cooper Hewitt’s National Design Award for Digital Design.
Theo is also the co-founder of the widely used openFrameworks project, an open source library for writing creative code in C++. Feel free to discuss your bug reports with him in person at FITC.
