Overview

In the past, IDEs had little to offer for dynamic languages and many JavaScript projects were considered too simple to warrant using one. However with the improved performance of today’s browsers and the growing popularity of powerful JavaScript frameworks, JavaScript projects are becoming larger and more complex. IDEs are also becoming smarter and now have a great deal to offer dynamic languages like JavaScript.

In this session, Rob McDiarmid will give you a feel for what it is like to work on a JavaScript application in WebStorm (JetBrains’ JavaScript IDE). You’ll learn how you can simplify your JavaScript and give your IDE a bit more to work with using TypeScript. Rob will also take a look at what the future of collaboration in the cloud might look like with Cloud 9.

Objective

Learn something new that will make you a happier and more productive developer.

Target Audience

JavaScript Developers

Assumed Audience Knowledge

Some experience working on a JavaScript project will be assumed. A little familiarity with AngularJS wouldn’t hurt as most of the examples will use it, but no experience is required.

Five things audience members will learn

  1. How WebStorm can make you more productive
  2. What Spy-JS is and how to use it
  3. Why you might want to try out TypeScript
  4. What Cloud 9 has to offer
  5. How to collaborate on code in the cloud
