Overview

As you walk around with your smartphone, do you really think about it as just a phone anymore? More than likely, you’ve realized that your smartphone is a little computer in your pocket. With the release of the new Android Open Accessory API, Android smartphones (and tablets) are becoming even more computer-like.

The Open Accessory API allows for communications with standard USB peripherals such as a mouse, keyboard, and game controllers but it also opens up the opportunity to add a mini computer to your alarm clock, to your exercise bike, or to build smart home automation systems. In this session, we’ll explore the API and it’s possibility for both commercial and experimental use.
